Transport Canada has granted Falko Regional Aircraft full transport category type certification for the Avro RJ series of airliners. The jets had not been certified in Canada when originally in production with BAE Systems, although the earlier BAe 146 models were approved by Transport Canada.
Falko, which bought the former BAE Systems Regional Aircraft leasing portfolio in July 2011, believes the Avro RJ has a lot of potential for operations in Canada, such as flying workers in and out of mining locations and serving remote communities, especially in the north of the country.
“We continue to invest in the product and now that this important type certificate award has been achieved, we anticipate that paved runway trials will commence in the near future,” said Falko sales and marketing vice president Stuart Begg. “This will allow Canadian Avro RJ operators to replicate the successful remote operations capability already established in Australia, Africa and Asia. Depending on market demand we are also exploring the development of a combi variant to futher enhance the product in Canada.”
