Bell Helicopter signed an agreement with Avincis Group for the sale of up to 20 helicopters today at Helitech International 2013 in London. The deal includes a mix of 429s, 412s and 412EPIs, largely for use in search-and-rescue operations. Avincis Group provides aerial services for mission-critical operations, such as medical emergency, civil protection, search-and-rescue, coastal and urban surveillance, firefighting and energy support services.

The new Sikorsky S-76D medium twin recently performed high-altitude takeoff and landing tests at Colorado’s Lake County Airport, the helicopter manufacturer announced last week. The trials, which took place at almost 10,000 feet msl, were part of a so-called envelope-expansion program.
Eurocopter has issued another emergency Service Bulletin and the EASA has published another emergency Airworthiness Directive for the EC225 and AS332L2 Super Pumas, this time centering on a life-raft housing. During an EC225 delivery flight, a sponson life-raft ejectable cowling was lost. It was caused by the incorrect positioning of a locking system during cowling installation. This condition, if not detected and corrected, could lead to the in-flight hazardous inflation of the life raft, according to the EASA.
Bell Helicopter delivered the first Bell 407GX to be operated in Russia to Helidrive in St. Petersburg, the rotorcraft manufacturer announced yesterday. The 407GX, which was officially handed over to Helidrive–Bell’s independent representative in northwest Russia–last week, will be used for both private and charter flights. To date, Bell has delivered more than 1,100 Bell 407s, including nearly 100 Bell 407GXs.

St Petersburg-based Helidrive, which is the U.S. manufacturer’s independent representative in northwest Russia, will be using the new single for private and charter use. Bell is displaying an example of the 407GX at this week’s JetExpo show in Moscow.
AgustaWestland is flight-testing several aerodynamic improvements that promise to boost the performance of its AW609 tiltrotor. In fact, these modifications reduce the tiltrotor’s drag by about 10 percent and deliver a “significant” weight reduction, resulting in the performance increases. The company is also upgrading the AW609’s turboprop engines, avionics and flight-control system.
In the UK AAIB’s second update on the investigation into the August 23 Eurocopter AS332L2 Super Puma fatal accident, it appears the helicopter was “intact,” with “both engines delivering power,” when it struck the sea. The attitude was near level pitch with a slight right bank.
Marenco Swisshelicopter expects to complete final assembly of its first SKYe SH09 prototype “over the coming weeks,” the company told AIN. CEO Martin Stucki said testing of the helicopter’s gearboxes and rotors is confirming expectations and simulations. According to the program’s schedule, the prototype of the light single will fly four to six weeks after the start of ground tests.
In the wake of a recent accident, three stakeholders in the Eurocopter Super Puma arena have rallied to support the aircraft’s safety record and image. “We do not believe that the accident was caused by an airworthiness or technical problem,” the UK CAA said in a statement.
AgustaWestland and Russian Helicopters signed an agreement last week at the MAKS airshow in Moscow for the joint design and development of a new light single-engine helicopter. The 50-50 joint program was first announced by the partners about a year ago.
The preliminary assessment of the 5,600-pound helicopter’s technical design is expected to be completed “in the next few months.” It is being designed for the worldwide market and a “wide range” of applications, the companies said.
