The Eurocopter EC 120B Colibri has been selected as the training platform for a 20-year rotary-wing program in Singapore, the European helicopter manufacturer announced here on Monday. Under the contract, Singapore Technologies Aerospace (ST Aerospace) will receive an unspecified number of EC 120B single-engine light helicopters on which Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) pilots will be trained.

Simultaneously, Eurocopter Southeast Asia, a 75-25 joint company of Eurocopter and ST Aerospace, is creating Eurocopter Training Services Asia. The new pilot school is expected to be established by the end of this year. Its promoters count on training several hundreds of pilots a year, from all over Asia. Various types of courses, such as ab initio or recurrent training, will be offered in both real aircraft and simulators. The pilot instructors will be qualified to operate the entire Eurocopter range of rotorcraft.

The EC 120B was jointly designed by Eurocopter, ST Aerospace and China’s CATIC. Here at Asian Aerospace 2006, Eurocopter can be found in Chalet D8-9.
