Boeing has rolled out the first 777 built at the program’s increased production rate of 8.3 per month, or 100 airplanes per year, the company announced Thursday. Plans call for delivery of the airplane—a 777 Freighter—to Korean Air in February.
GE Aviation has expanded its CT7 engine overhaul subcontract agreement (EOSA) with H+S Aviation to include all CT7-5A and CT7-9B engine care maintenance program (ECMP) commercial engine shop visits. Under the terms of the agreement, GE will continue to manage CT7 ECMP contracts and supply OEM parts to H+S, which will perform all labor on engine shop visits.
In 2011, CT7-5A and -9B engines accounted for 170 shop visits, more than 80 percent of all CT7 shop visits.
Greenwich AeroGroup has agreed to buy military aircraft parts and logistics specialist Aero Precision Industries. Among the main platforms supported by Livermore, Calif.-based Aero Precision are F-15, F-16 and F-18 fighters, C-130 transports and helicopters such as the UH-60/S-70, UH-1, AH-64 and CH-47 types.

Albuquerque, N.M.-based Eclipse Aerospace responded Friday to a U.S. Air Force request for information (RFI) concerning possible replacement of the service’s 178 Beechjet 400-based T-1 Jayhawks with very light jets. This is the second time the USAF has put out feelers for VLJs, having issued a broader RFI for these small jets in November 2006.
In a late fourth-quarter sales blitz, Bombardier logged 12 new business jet orders. On December 21, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer secured an order for five Global 6000s worth $293 million from an undisclosed customer. Six days later, another undisclosed customer placed an order for six Learjet 75s worth approximately $81 million. The first Learjet 75 is scheduled to be delivered later this year.

Mumbai-based Jet Airways last month announced the planned induction of five leased ATR 72-600s into its fleet. Scheduled to launch service with the first of the new 68-seat turboprops by the end of last year, Jet Airways said it expects to accept all five Gecas-sourced airplanes by the end of this March. The airline’s domestic expansion strategy centers on serving more so-called Tier II and Tier III destinations, according to Jet Airways COO Sudheer Raghavan.
Oman confirmed a long-expected order for 12 Eurofighter Typhoons, and also decided to buy eight BAE Systems Hawk advanced jet trainers (AJTs). The contract is worth about $3.75 billion; deliveries will begin in 2017. The Typhoons will replace aging Jaguar strike aircraft in the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), while the Hawk AJTs will supplement or replace the RAFO’s Hawk Mk103/203s. BAE Systems will provide in-service support.
The U.S. Navy and prime contractor Northrop Grumman completed the first at-sea deck handling tests of the X-47B unmanned combat air system (UCAS) demonstrator last month. The demonstrator aircraft, one of two built for the program, performed numerous activities aboard the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman both in port at Naval Station Norfolk, Va., and during the 15-day test phase at sea.
