Boeing has selected Elbit Systems to supply the high-resolution large area display (LAD) for future export versions of the F-15 Eagle and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. The 11- by 19-inch LAD replaces several multifunction displays. It forms part of the F-15 Silent Eagle proposal to Korea, and the Super Hornet proposal for Brazil’s long-running fighter contest.
Business aircraft flying activity in the U.S. returned to positive territory last month, with traffic rising 6.1 percent versus the year-ago period, according to TraqPak data released today by aviation services company Argus. As it has for much of the past year, Part 91 flying was solely responsible for the overall gain last month, with activity in this segment climbing a healthy 11.7 percent year over year.
Bend, Ore.-based Epic Aircraft, maker of the Epic LT turboprop single kitplane, was acquired on Tuesday by Engineering llc, a Russian maintenance, repair and overhaul firm. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Epic Aircraft CEO Douglas King, who remains with the company in this same position, said it is “exciting to be a part of Epic Aircraft’s next chapter.” This next step is FAA certification, and the acquisition will give Epic enough funding to work on a certified version of the six-place turboprop. According to Epic, it will take about three years to certify the airplane.
The 2012 Embraer Legacy 650 will make its debut next week at the third International Exhibition and Conference on Civil Aviation (India Aviation) next week at Hyderabad Begumpet Airport. The updated business jet features refinements to its interior, an upgraded cabin management system and increased efficiency. The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer will also have a Phenom 100 and 300 on static display at the Indian show.
Embraer and Hawker Pacific have extended the service center’s capabilities to cover Phenom 300 and Lineage 1000 maintenance. Under the terms of the agreement Hawker Pacific becomes the first Embraer-authorized service center in the Asia-Pacific region to offer maintenance services for all of Embraer’s executive jets. The MRO already provides maintenance services for Embraer’s Phenom 100 and Legacy 600/650 at its facility in Singapore.
Gulfstream Aerospace said on Friday that its super-midsize G280 received a provisional type certificate from the FAA, some two months after receiving identical approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel. According to Gulfstream, the principal remaining item required before the FAA and CAAI issue full type certificates is an update to the software for the twinjet’s Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics.
Bell Helicopter CEO John Garrison told AIN that his company is seeking airframe partners on its new 525 Relentless super-medium twin, which was announced last month at Heli-Expo in Dallas. “We’re looking at that. On the airframe side there are some potential partners that we are in detailed discussions with, but it is too early to announce anything yet,” he said.
Boeing has increased the final assembly production rate on the 787 Dreamliner from 2.5 to 3.5 per month in Everett, Washington, a Boeing spokesman Monday. The rate increase took effect on March 1.
“Elements of the supply chain are already moving toward subsequent rate breaks in the future,” said the spokesman.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) granted type approval in late January to Franco-Russian engine maker PowerJet for a more powerful version of the SaM146 turbofan. Designated the SaM146 1S18, the engine offers 16,100 pounds of takeoff thrust, compared with the 1S17’s 15,400 pounds, thereby increasing the Sukhoi Superjet 100-95 LR’s mtow and extending its range to 2,470 nm with a full passenger load.
Toulouse, France-based regional turboprop manufacturer ATR is pressing ahead with plans to increase its production rate progressively over the next three years while preparing to add a larger, 90-seat model to its product line, which now consists of the 50-seat ATR 42-600 and 74-seat ATR 72-600.
