Garmin’s release of a new version of its experimental G3X avionics system not only marks a major move into a big market but also the expansion of its Team X, a group of engineers and designers paving the way to new lower-cost products for experimental aircraft. The G3X system can be seen this week at Garmin’s booth (No. D-034) at the Sun ’n Fun Fly-in in Lakeland, Fla.
Attitude and heading reference system
Hilton Software’s WingX Pro7 iPad app can now share flight plans between devices without an Internet connection. The FlightShare function allows any device running WingX Pro7 to send a flight plan and other information to another device on the same network, but now the sharing can be done via portable ADS-B receivers and AHRS devices. WingX Pro7 is now compatible with the iLevil ADS-B receiver/AHRS device, the Zaon MX1090 ADS-B traffic receiver, Sagetech’s Clarity ADS-B receivers and AHRS devices and Skyguard’s TWX ADS-B receivers.
First-time Heli-Expo exhibitor Archangel Systems is demonstrating tiny FAA-approved attitude heading reference systems (AHRS) designed for helicopter avionics upgrades at Booth No. N5532. The company also announced a major win yesterday, the selection of its AHR150A ADAHRS by MD Helicopters for the OEM’s new Universal Avionics integrated flight deck in the MD Explorer. “This is a brand new integrated cockpit system, and this is a first for Archangel,” said CEO Michael Greene.
UAV Navigation, a developer of flight-control avionics and motion sensors for unmanned aircraft, said it demonstrated its LCAP autopilot system in a “sea-skimming” target UAV designed to mimic the threat of an incoming missile.
Operators flying aircraft equipped with Universal Avionics flight management systems will soon be able to enjoy improved flight efficiency thanks to Universal’s new FlexPerf Trip Performance module. The module will be available for Universal Waas/Sbas FMSs (and also Waas/Sbas-capable military Multi-Mission Management Systems). FlexPerf will be available with the next major software release in the first quarter of 2013.
Garmin (Booth No. 2758) has added new features and equipment for its G600 and G500 flight display systems. New software and a new GAD 43e adaptor enable both systems to display and control altitude preselect and vertical speed as well as display DME distance, analog radar altitude and analog navigation data.
“By integrating this data into the G600 and G500 digital displays, aircraft owners have an opportunity to clean up their panels and enhance the reliability of their instruments by removing older equipment,” said Garmin vice president Carl Wolf.
Eclipse Aerospace took an important and large step toward resuming new production of its light twinjet yesterday. The company placed a production order Innovative Solutions & Support (Booth No. 4331) for the initial 50 of 300 shipsets ordered of the Eclipse 550 Avio integrated flight management system (IFMS), which includes dual FMS, autothrottles, synthetic vision, integrated Taws and enhanced vision system (EVS). The IS&S suite also features electronic circuit breakers, radios, transponders and radar.
Hilton Software (Booth No. 3064) has added key new features to its WingX Pro 7 iPad moving-map software, including integration with the X-Plane flight simulator and a terrain and obstacle ground proximity warning system (GPWS) that includes a terrain profile. The GPWS also provides a look-ahead function to warn pilots of impending impact with terrain or obstacles.
Hilton Software’s WingX Pro 7 moving-map iPad app is now integrated with the X-Plane flight simulator software, so X-Plane users can fly with WingX Pro 7 and view all of the WingX features during a simulated flight. This includes the position of the simulated aircraft depicted on WingX’s moving-map and geo-referenced approach plates. Additionally, X-Plane users can try out WingX Pro 7 features such as synthetic vision with pitch and bank, without needing a separate AHRS device.
