Forecast International is questioning whether component suppliers will manage to keep up with the demand from Airbus and Boeing as they prepare to raise production rates of commercial airliners over the next 10 years.
Embraer Defense and Security has selected L-3 Aviation Products’ GH-3900 electronic standby instrument system, cockpit voice and data recorder and micro- quick access recorder for its military transport aircraft, the Embraer KC-390, which is due to enter service in 2016.
EADS Innovation Works is here at the show with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that was built using a rapid-prototyping method known as additive layer manufacturing (ALM), or 3-D printing. EADS is exhibiting it to demonstrate the possibilities ALM offers. The plastic-material drone here can’t fly, but EADS plans to manufacture a metal one that will be able to fly.
Rolls-Royce and Aircelle have signed a service contract for the Trent 900 engine nacelles that will be fitted to British Airways Airbus A380s. The airline has ordered 12 of the type.
Chinese carrier Hebei Airlines has ordered five more Embraer 190s with the 100-seaters due to join Hebei’s two in-service E-190s by the end of 2013. The Brazilian airframer values the deal, at list prices, at $226 million.

Simrit, a global supplier of precision-manufactured products for the aerospace industry, is focusing on fuel efficiency as the main theme during the show. Pilots in Southern California are urged to use caution now that the new north and south Los Angeles Class D airspace became active on June 28. The north Class D airspace stands adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Class B airspace and Santa Monica Airport (SMO) Class D airspace.
