The 10th annual Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition at Congonhas Airport, in the southern suburbs of São Paulo, Brazil, came to a close August 16, having proved a success for organizer ABAG (Associação Brasileira de Aviação Geral, the General Aviation Association of Brazil) in its efforts to promote business aviation in the halls of government in the vast country. However, most notable to visitors–who tended to turn up en masse after 3 p.m.

Brazilian air taxi operators association ABTAer is to hold its fifth annual convention at São Paulo’s Campo de Marte Airport on August 30 and 31. The event is expected to draw more than 60 companies, as well as government officials and members of Brazil’s congress. Among the issues of concern to ABTAer’s members are ongoing airport access problems and the threats posed by illegal charter activity.

The tenth Latin American Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (LABACE) opens here at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo today. Brazil’s civil aviation minister Moreira Franco and the commandant of the Brazilian air force, Air Brigadier Saito, are expected to be the guests of honor at the opening ceremony and “ribbon cutting,” to be held at midday. Brazil’s business aviation community certainly needs friends in high places as it continues to insist that its operational needs are not overlooked as the country develops its air transport infrastructure.

Bacacheri Airport in the city of Curitiba, approximately 150 miles south of São Paulo, has been named the third largest general aviation airport in Brazil. A survey conducted by ABAG (Associação Brasileira de Aviação Geral, Brazilian Association of General Aviation) showed the airport handled 52,786 movements in 2011, trailing only Campo de Marte Airport in São Paulo and Jacarepauá Airport in Rio de Janeiro.

The Brazilian Association of Air Taxis (ABTaer) has protested what it describes as the illegal use of helicopters for passenger shuttle purposes during the Formula 1 World Championship auto race in São Paulo in November.
