The services division of Comlux is offering Bombardier Global 8C inspections and the first is in progress. A Bombardier-authorized service facility since 2009, Comlux performed the first fuselage crown skin replacement on a Bombardier Global XRS in 2012, following a lightning strike.

The MRO also announced the addition of the Learjet 70/75 to its OpsSpec. “As an authorized service center for Learjet, we are pleased to have this join our list of approved aircraft,” said Jim Soleo, CEO of Comlux America.

In December the Comlux group is set to begin the expansion of the completions hangar at the Indianapolis, Ind. headquarters of its Comlux America division. The investment, announced at last year’s NBAA show, represents a leap of faith on the part of a company that believes rising demand for VIP completions of larger Airbus and Boeing aircraft will offset the relatively sluggish narrowbody sector.

Spirit Aeronautics of Columbus, Ohio, has named Bill Highfill director of maintenance. He will be responsible for aircraft maintenance, avionics and interior refurbishment operations. Highfill has 17 years of experience at Gulfstream Aerospace, Indianapolis Jet Center (now Comlux Aviation Services) and Arinc. Previous senior positions include director of maintenance, general manager and senior operations manager. Highfill graduated from Embry-Riddle University, where he studied business aviation maintenance management and aviation maintenance technology.

Saudia Private Aviation (SPA) has embarked on a second five-year plan this year to improve service and concentrate on new lines of business. It expects to be a leading player as the number of Middle East-based private aircraft grows to around 800 aircraft in 2020, CEO Faisal Kayal said.

In a Saudi press interview earlier this year, Kayal said SPA would focus on four areas: private aircraft leasing; management and operation; ground services and logistics; and maintenance. He added that it was putting the “final touches” to its new five-year plan.

Fly Comlux has added an Airbus ACJ318 to its managed fleet. The aircraft was previously managed by another operator but is now part of the Comlux stable in the Middle East. It is operated purely for its owner and will not be available for charter.

Comlux’s interior design team takes a highly personalized and detailed approach to completions projects.

Business aviation services group Comlux has strengthened its management team as it seeks to further differentiate itself from competitors in both the completions and refurbishment and aircraft management sectors. In an interview ahead of this week’s EBACE show, the Zurich, Switzerland-based group’s president and CEO Richard Gaona told AIN that Comlux will not be following the cost-cutting approach apparently favored by some competitors.

Comlux has increased its managed fleet to 19 jets with the addition of an Airbus ACJ318. The aircraft is based in the Middle East and will be operated by a European crew entirely for the private use of its undisclosed owner.

According to the group’s president and CEO, Richard Gaona, Comlux’s approval to operate under ETOPS 180 extended-range-over-water rules and conduct Cat IIIB approaches has been a key differentiator from rival management companies. For Airbus aircraft alone, the company has logged more than 12,000 flight hours over the past six years.

Business aircraft charter and management firm Elit’Avia received an aircraft operator certificate (AOC) from Transport Malta and has inducted three aircraft under this certificate. The company is now managing a Dassault Falcon 7X and Bombardier Global XRS and Challenger 605 on the Malta aircraft registry, the latter two of which are available for charter. The Falcon will initially be operated privately.
