Global aviation services provider Spirit Avionics (Booth No. C11248) recently reached a sales milestone when its global parts support division surpassed $10 million in sales in less than a year, a rate that equates to a 60-percent increase over the previous year’s tally. “This growing segment of our business is just another example of how Spirit Avionics is evolving into a world-class aviation services provider,” said Tony Bailey, the former CEO of Comlux Aviation Services, who was recently named as Spirit’s president.
Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company has produced the first VIP version of its new Superjet SSJ-100 airliner. The first example of the Sukhoi Business Jet was on display at last month’s MAKS airshow in Moscow. It is due to go to Russian defense export agency Rosoboronexport by year-end. This aircraft is based on the standard SSJ-100 model but future SBJs will be based on the long-range version of the narrowbody.
Business aviation services group Comlux will complete the relocation of its main holding company from Switzerland to Malta with the formal opening on Thursday of its new headquarters on the Mediterranean island.
GE Aviation named Comlux an authorized service center for GE’s CF34-3 engines, which power the large-cabin Bombardier Challengers. Under the terms of the agreement, Comlux can perform line maintenance inspections and routine installed engine maintenance, including removal and replacement of engines and engine components.
The first Airbus ACJ321 interior is being completed at Comlux America in Indianapolis, with delivery to sister company and charter operator Fly Comlux in Zurich expected next year.
The airplane is the newest private jet from the Airbus ACJ series, and when Fly Comlux takes delivery, its fleet will include at least one each of the entire ACJ single-aisle bizliners: the ACJ318, ACJ319, ACJ320 and ACJ321. The ACJ321 will be the largest of that ACJ series in the Fly Comlux fleet.
The launch customer for the $50 million Sukhoi Business Jet has decided not to complete the first two aircraft and could back out of its deal to buy the aircraft altogether. Just when the first SBJ will be placed into service is now uncertain as Sukhoi and Italian partner Alenia toil to make deliveries to airline clients after fitting the aircraft with numerous upgrades, including a revamped passenger cabin by the Italian design house Pininfarina.
Columbus, Ohio-based Spirit Avionics named Tony Bailey as president. Bailey has more than 30 years’ experience in various leadership roles and has held such positions at Comlux Aviation Services and Pentastar Aviation. “Tony was the perfect choice to help us renew our leadership and implement a strategy to [expand] our worldwide footprint,” said Rick Ochs, chairman and founder of Spirit Avionics.
Comlux has taken delivery of its first Airbus ACJ321. It is now being outfitted by Comlux America in Indianapolis and is slated for delivery next year. Additional center tanks are also being installed to give the ACJ321 extra range. “This is an important year for Comlux because we are celebrating our 10th anniversary. We started to operate the ACJ family in 2006 and to date we have flown more than 15,000 charter hours on our Airbus fleet,” said Richard Gaona, president and CEO of Comlux, the Aviation Group.
Comlux has taken delivery of the first Airbus ACJ321, which makes the aircraft charter firm the first company to have every single-aisle Airbus corporate jet variant–the ACJ318, ACJ319, ACJ320 and ACJ321–in its fleet. The ACJ321 is being outfitted with a VIP cabin by Comlux America in Indianapolis and is scheduled to be completed next year. Comlux was an early Airbus Corporate Jetliner customer and was the first to operate the Airbus ACJ318. Its fleet now includes five Airbus ACJs.
After just a decade of operation, Switzerland- and U.S.-based Comlux (Booth 387) has a lot to be proud about. At EBACE the company is celebrating its 10th anniversary and five years of operations as Comlux USA in Indianapolis, Indiana. There are new VIP aircraft in the Fly Comlux fleet, and completions projects rolling into the hangars on both continents, as well as some intriguing plans for the future.
