On July 31 Clay Jones is retiring as a director and nonexecutive chairman of the board of Rockwell Collins. Independent director and board member Anthony Carbone will become nonexecutive chairman on August 1. Jones joined Rockwell Collins in 1979 and became president in 1999, then CEO in 2001. In 2002 he became chairman and he retired as CEO on July 31 last year.

Rockwell Collins and Kobev International have introduced a new Fans 1/A and CPDLC training program that is available for in-aircraft training at a customer’s location or at Rockwell Collins’s facility in Annapolis, Md., or at Kobev International in Sugar Grove, Ill. The training “emulates a pilot’s real-world communications with ATC,” according to Rockwell Collins, and allows pilots to “have an interactive experience with real-time feedback.” The emulation program was developed by Rockwell Collins’s Arinc Direct.
The Legacy 500 that Embraer brought to EBACE last week is one of four flight-test aircraft that have racked up more than 1,500 hours of testing as the type approaches certification, slated for the middle of this year. Embraer Executive Jets president Mario Túlio Pellegrini said that function and reliability testing is the last remaining item to be completed, followed by paperwork. “We are confident we can conclude the certification by mid-year,” he added.
Embraer Executive Jet’s Customer Support & Services (CS&S) division is getting into high gear to be ready for the Legacy 500 to enter service around mid-year. “Four support centers are making preparations in Europe [and the Middle East],”said CS&S vice president Edson Carlos Mallaco. One is an Embraer-owned facility at Paris Le Bourget Airport, and the other three are authorized service centers run by Inflite (London Stansted), Nayak (Cologne) and ExecuJet (Dubai).
Rockwell Collins unveiled two key cabin systems programs at its EBACE press conference yesterday, including expansion of the capabilities of the Tailwind 550 Direct Broadcast Satellite TV system and introduction of a Venue HD (high-definition) retrofit for Bombardier Global jets.
Embraer’s revenues in the quarter rose by $157 million, to $1.242 billion, while profits climbed from $30 million in the first quarter of 2013 to $110.6 million in the same period this year. At its Executive Jets division, first-quarter revenue soared to $267.4 million, up from $175.3 million a year ago. Embraer delivered 20 executive jets (17 light and three large) in the quarter, compared with 12 (eight light, four large) in the same period last year.
GE Aviation and Evergreen Aviation Technologies have formed a joint-venture company, GE Evergreen Engine Services, to specialize in the overhaul of the GEnx engine.
A spokesman for GE Aviation told AIN the two parties are investing approximately $130 million over the next five years.
The new venture will be located at the GE Aviation and Evergreen Aviation Technologies facility in Taipei. The facility currently provides airframe and engine work. “There is also ample real estate available, so we’re looking at all the options,” said the spokesman.
Santa Rosa, Calif.-based KaiserAir announced Rick Brainard has joined the organization as director of maintenance marketing and business development. Brainard’s recent experience includes aviation consulting with Aerick Global, roles in business development, v-p sales and general manager with West Star Aviation, various roles with McKinney Aerospace, and sales leadership roles with GE Aircraft Engines, AlliedSignal and BFGoodrich.
GE Aviation and Bristow Group signed the first engine service agreement for the CT7-2E1 turboshaft that powers the new AgustaWestland AW189 twin. The agreement expands the longstanding GE-Bristow partnership by adding the AW189s’ engines to Bristow’s global fleet of powerplants maintained under a maintenance cost per hour (MCPH) service agreement.
The first formal agreement between a major global avionics manufacturer and a Russian-based aviation solutions provider was enacted via a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Rockwell Collins (Booth No. 8040) and St. Petersburg, Russia-based Transas Aviation.
