Making synthetic training affordable by allowing customers to tailor programs to their specific needs is the idea behind Metro Aviation’s Shreveport, La.-based Helicopter Flight Training Center (HFTC).
Illinois-based aircraft training device manufacturer Frasca International, Inc. (Booth H304) announced here at ABACE 2014 it has just completed factory acceptance by the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) of a Citation CJ1+ Level D full flight simulator (FFS) purchased by Nanshan Flight Academy in Shandong.
“Factory acceptance per CAAC guidelines is like certifying an airplane,” said Niu Tao, Frasca’s Beijing-based Chief Representative in China. “The requirements for the simulator are very stringent.”
High-quality flight simulation is extraordinarily expensive, and Caleb Taylor, founder of flight-training provider ProFlight in Carlsbad, Calif., believes his company has found a lower-cost and better method to help pilots learn how to fly a new jet and stay current. ProFlight specializes in Cessna CitationJet training (CE-525/CE-525S) and offers a full-motion Level D-qualified CJ3 flight simulator as well as a non-motion Level 6 CJ3 flight training device (FTD). ProFlight also offers training for the Cessna Conquest I and II turboprops.
SimCom and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America (MHIA) have qualified a second MU-2 simulator, which is located at SimCom’s Orlando, Fla., training center. The simulator is qualified to Flight Training Device (FTD) Level 5 standards and can be used for Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) pilot training, which is mandatory for all MU-2 pilots. Under SFAR 108, MU-2 pilots must receive specific initial, recurrent and requalification training. The new simulator replicates most MU-2 models except the MU-2F and earlier.
Canada’s Mechtronix has been selected to build a full flight trainer (FFT) for the Piper Meridian at its Montreal facility. The FFT is being acquired by OK Business Aircraft, which acts as the Piper dealer for central-eastern Europe. The contract was signed on the wing of the Meridian in the static park at EBACE 2013.
FlightSafety International’s Orlando Learning Center caters to the full range of Cessna Citation clients. Many return to the center for recurrent training while their aircraft undergo maintenance across the street at Cessna’s factory-owned and -operated regional service center.
