Winglet Technology reports “significant progress” toward FAA certification of its Cessna Citation X elliptical winglet modification. Announced at NBAA’07 in Atlanta, the program has moved through full-scale wing static test to installation of the modification kit and production winglets on Cessna’s test aircraft.
Comlux announced the formation of Comlux America and the acquisition by that entity of independent completion and refurbishment specialist Indianapolis Jet Center.
According to Comlux Group chief marketing officer Severine Cosma, the move is part of a growth strategy put into place by Comlux president and CEO Richard Gaona shortly after he assumed control of the Zurich-based charter and aircraft management company last November.

Mitsubishi Aircraft has signed a support contract with Boeing under which the Chicago-based company will serve as a consultant on the 70- to 90-seat Mitsubishi Regional Jet, the Japanese company said today.
Under the terms of the contract, Boeing will help with marketing, development and aftermarket activities for the pair of new regional jets, the first of which the companies expect to reach the market in 2013.
Republic Airways and Delta Air Lines in late July reached an agreement to remove the Indianapolis-based regional airline’s final eleven 37-seat Embraer ERJ 135s from service. Original schedules called for Republic to remove the airplanes at a rate of two per month between this coming November and April next year. The revised agreement resulted in the removal of three aircraft on July 31, followed by four on August 31.
For airplanes–some airplanes at least–30 years is just another birthday to precede many more, a time when the manufacturers will hopefully hear comments such as “better, not older,” or “significantly improved.” That is true of the Bombardier Challenger 605.
Embraer’s second Phenom 300 joined the flight-test program just a few days before making its first public show appearance at LABACE. The airplane made its first flight at the Brazilian manufacturer’s Gavião Peixoto facility. The third and fourth flight-test articles are in the assembly and pre-assembly stages. Certification is expected late next year, with deliveries to begin shortly thereafter.
An integration fault in the Bombardier CRJ1000’s fly-by-wire rudder control system has forced the company to install a software revision in the prototype destined to make the type’s first flight, resulting in delays to ground testing and contributing to the postponement of first flight.
Years after testing an unusually shaped “spiroid” winglet on a Gulfstream II, Aviation Partners remains “intensely interested” in continuing research into the efficiency-boosting winglets, according to a company spokesman. Spiroid winglets look like a long thin winglet ribbon that was heated to the malleable stage then twisted back onto the top of the wing.
