Unseasonably bad weather at the 2012 Farnborough International airshow required exhibitors and visitors alike to dig deep into the reserves of resilience and flexibility that they have had to draw on in business conditions that remain uncomfortably unpredictable. But despite the near-relentless British rain, the event delivered no small amount of encouragement for the aerospace sector (primarily on the commercial side of the fence) and plenty of points of interest for industry watchers.
Associated Air Center (AAC) has taken the art of cabin completion and refurbishment to a new level with the June 28 opening of a 4,000-sq-ft design center at its Dallas Love Field site.
“The bulk of all interiors we provide to our customers are conceived, detailed and built by our own internal design department,” said v-p and general manager Chris Schechter. “This new design center will showcase the best of what we do at AAC: creative and innovative design, talented craftsmen and an overall commitment to quality.”
Dassault Falcon has named Indian charter operator Taj Air as a Dassault Falcon authorized line service station at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. The facility, which is already operational, will provide scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and inspections for all Falcon 2000 models. Initially the facility will serve Indian-registered Falcons; EASA approval is expected early next year. The 35,000-sq-ft facility also offers 24-hour AOG assistance.
Qatar-based Rizon Jet has been granted approval by the Bermuda Department of Civil Aviation for its Doha facility to maintain and repair Bermuda-registered aircraft under an AMO certificate. The MRO has also added the Learjet 45 and Challenger 300 to its Biggin Hill, UK, line and base maintenance list of aircraft capabilities. Both locations are EASA Part 145 compliant and hold approvals from a number of different states. The centers offer AOG support on Bombardier and Hawker aircraft.

Bombardier Aerospace will temporarily cease production of the Learjet 60XR later this year due to flagging demand for the $13.71 million eight-passenger twinjet, the company announced to employees at its Wichita facility late last week. Though the “production pause” will start late in the fourth quarter, “We will continue delivering Learjet 60XRs into 2013 and we will be honoring all orders for the airplane,” a Bombardier spokeswoman told AIN.
Gulfstream Aerospace recently delivered the 600th Gulfstream jet equipped with the PlaneView cockpit, nine years after the flight deck entered service. The milestone aircraft was the 362nd G550 to be delivered. In addition, Gulfstream has installed more than 250 synthetic vision systems and enhanced navigation systems. Meanwhile, the company is in the last phases of certifying PlaneView II, the “advanced” flight deck that will make its debut on the Gulfstream G650, which is expected to enter service later this quarter.

The two pilots operating an Air India Airbus A330 between Delhi and Shanghai were grounded after an incident in which the aircraft encountered turbulence strong enough to damage the aircraft and injure some crew and passengers.
Despite reports from flight attendants of damage and injuries in the cabin, the two pilots did not divert the aircraft to a nearby airport, but continued on to the original destination.
