The World Economic Forum, held annually in Davos, Switzerland, traditionally attracts a large number of business aircraft, and this year was no exception, with hundreds of government and business leaders heading to the area. Jet Aviation Zurich this year handled 726 movements and nearly 2,000 passengers during the course of the conference (January 22 to 25), while tallying fuel sales of more than 1.1 million liters (290,000 gallons). The FBO noted larger aircraft carrying more passengers this year.

Airbus Corporate Jets has appointed Benoit Defforge managing director. He will also maintain his previous role as head of the Airbus Corporate Jet Centre (ACJC).

Bill Chiles, president and CEO of helicopter operator Bristow Group, announced he will retire at the end of July but will remain with the company in a consulting role for another two years. He will be replaced by senior v-p and CFO Jonathan Baliff.

Gulfstream G200

Business has been so good at West Coast charter/management firm Jet Edge International that the company devised an unusual arrangement to build a fleet of Gulfstream G200s. With a fleet consisting of mostly large-cabin Gulfstreams, Jet Edge has seen growing demand for the super-midsize charter market, and the G200s (and one G280, with two more coming) are ideal to fill that need, according to president Bill Papariella.

Jet Aviation Dubai will move its business operations to Dubai World Central throughout the planned runway rehabilitation project this summer at Dubai International Airport. As such, it will support full FBO, line maintenance and AOG services at its Dubai World Central facility from May 1 through July 21. Following completion of the runway construction project, Jet Aviation will resume full maintenance and FBO operations at Dubai International Airport.

Jet Aviation Hong Kong recently received approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to provide line and base maintenance for the Gulfstream G450 The MRO is a Gulfstream factory-authorized warranty service center for the G450/G550/G650. Jet Aviation Hong Kong offers line maintenance, inspections and defect rectifications, AOG support and has access to a 99,027-sq-ft hangar. The company holds Hong Kong CAD maintenance repair station approval, an FAA repair station certificate and mainland China JMM approval for PRC-registered aircraft.

Growth is the word in the Asia-Pacific region, and since 2010 Jet Aviation Singapore has more than doubled the number of skilled workers it employs; three-quarters of the new employees are local hires. To meet growing demand for business aviation services in the region, Jet Aviation Singapore has raised its employee headcount to 123 from 59 in 2010 and plans to hire 13 more aviation professionals this year.

Gulfstream has enjoyed a surge of sales in the region over the 2008-2014 time period.

Gulfstream Aerospace is here with its entire line of business jets, hoping to keep its Asia Pacific fleet growing after a spectacular surge over the 2008-2014 period. On the static display, airshow visitors can see the G150, G280, G450, G550 and G650 models, with the super-midsize G280 and the ultra long-range G650 being debutants at the Singapore Airshow. The airframer is continuing to invest in its sales force and product support offering in the region, Roger Sperry, senior regional v-p international sales told AIN.

Jet Aviation’s expanded Seletar hangar triples the size of the original structure at right.

Business aviation services group Jet Aviation (Booth E83) is set to significantly boost its maintenance capability in Asia when it completes construction of 79-foot high second hangar at Singapore’s Seletar Aerospace Park in April. The new $25 million facility will triple the size of its present facility adding almost 54,000 sq ft of hangar space.

ExecuJet’s new FBO at Bali International Airport is set to move into a new general aviation terminal now being built alongside its existing facility.

Switzerland-based business aviation services group ExecuJet Aviation, which is exhibiting at the Singapore Airshow for the first time (Booth D87), is set to significantly boost its presence in the Asian market during the course of 2014.

Gulfstream Aerospace had a banner year in 2013. According to full-year results from parent company General Dynamics, the aerospace division, which includes Gulfstream and Jet Aviation, saw revenues climb 17.4 percent year-over-year to $8.118 billion, while profits soared 65 percent to $1.416 billion.
