Sikorsky S-76D

Buoyed by several years of steady growth and a healthy $6.8 billion in sales recorded in 2012, Sikorsky is on the right track and gaining momentum, president Mick Maurer said yesterday.

With a multi-year, multi-service Black Hawk and Seahawk contract in hand valued at $89.5 billion and an S-76D backlog valued at around $700 million, the Stratford, Conn. manufacturer is anticipating a bright 2013.

The Danish government signed a letter of intent to acquire nine MH-60R Seahawk helicopters through a U.S. foreign military sale valued at $686 million. Denmark is the second foreign nation after Australia to buy the maritime helicopter, manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft with mission systems integration by Lockheed Martin.

Sikorsky and Ruili Jingcheng Group (RJG) signed two contracts for the introduction of an S-92 and S-76D, marking Sikorsky’s first S-92 helicopter sale to a private Chinese operator and the first-ever S-76D sale into China. The signing took place today at Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai. Both aircraft will be configured for airline use.

The Sikorsky Innovations Entrepreneurial Challenge, now in its second year, saw a significant increase in entries over last year, a sign that the competition is gaining interest among its target audience: entrepreneurial companies looking “to understand some of the toughest issues facing the vertical flight community and to identify their technology as relevant to one or more of these issues.” The Challenge is open to any small company with revenue under $5 million, including newly formed and pre-revenue entities.

Sikorsky Aircraft Australia has signed a four-year agreement with the Australian Defense Force for ongoing logistics and engineering support for the Commonwealth of Australia’s fleet of S-70A and S-70B Black Hawks. The more than $120 million deal, which includes six annual renewable options, is a follow-on agreement to one that is expiring after an eight-year term. Sikorsky Aircraft Australia does business as Sikorsky Helitech.

United Technologies (UTC) announced this month that Mick Maurer has been appointed president of its Sikorsky Aircraft subsidiary, effective July 1. Maurer, who will succeed Jeff Pino, joined Sikorsky in 2000 and most recently served as president of the military systems unit. Pino, who will retire effective July 1, will then serve as a consultant to Sikorsky.

United Technologies (UTC) announced on Monday that Mick Maurer has been appointed president of its Sikorsky Aircraft subsidiary, effective July 1. Maurer, who will succeed the retiring Jeffrey Pino,

joined Sikorsky in 2000 and most recently served as president of the military systems unit.

Pino, who will retire effective July 1, will then serve as a consultant to Sikorsky. He has been Sikorsky’s president since 2006, and during his tenure the helicopter manufacturer has doubled its production rate, according to Louis Chênevert, UTC chairman and CEO.

Sikorsky president Jeff Pino presented his company’s 2011 results and 2012 outlook last week, and the outlook suggests that strong deliveries of the S-92 medium twin will boost civil activity this year. Pino is expecting S-92 handovers to leap by 42 percent and overall civil activity by approximately 30 percent, while overall total sales (military and civil) will fall by 5 percent.

Sikorsky Aircraft has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mexican helicopter service provider Aeroservicios Especializados (ASESA) to jointly explore assembly and service opportunities in support of Black Hawk helicopters.
