The FAA announced it will formally re-examine the certification standards for helicopters under FAR Parts 27 and 29. Currently Part 27 helicopters must weigh 7,000 pounds or less and have no more than nine passenger seats. Helicopters that weigh more than 7,000 pounds and have 10 or more seats fall under the more stringent Part 29.
Dallas Aeronautical Services (DAS) is in the final stages of receiving approval to open a center for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of composite and bonded metal/composite components for a wide range of business aircraft types. The center will be the first of its kind in South America.

Honeywell has named JetSupport’s MRO division an authorized service center. The designation will broaden the MRO’s current maintenance capability, which includes the Citation 650 and Falcons. The initial authorization grants approval to perform maintenance on the Honeywell TFE731 turbofan and APUs. JetSupport plans to add Honeywell’s TPE331 turboprop and avionics products to its authorization.
JetSupport provides MRO services and support for business aviation and special-purpose aircraft.
West Star Aviation’s East Alton location was founded in 1947 and was originally named Walston Aviation. It changed ownership in 1986 and was renamed Premier Air Center. In 2004, the principals of Premier Air Center acquired West Star Aviation in Grand Junction, Colo., and operated under the dual name Premier Air Center/West Star Aviation until September 2007, when the company was rebranded West Star Aviation.
Duncan Aviation will open the new maintenance hangar complex at its facility in Lincoln, Neb. with an open house on July 15. A full day of informational sessions, tours of the campus and visits with industry vendors and OEMs will conclude with an evening reception with music, food, drinks and socializing. The event is open to anyone in the business aviation industry.
Duncan Aviation broke ground for the 175,000-sq-ft facility in the fall of 2012; it comprises two 40,000-sq-ft maintenance hangars and 95,000 sq ft of office and shop space.
EASA has given approval to DC Aviation to expand its maintenance capabilities to include the Bombardier Challenger 604/605. Through its facility at Dubai World Central, DC Aviation Al-Futtaim, the joint venture between DC Aviation and Al-Futtaim, can now offer line maintenance support to customers operating the Challenger as well as the Airbus A320 series and Bombardier Global Express.
Jet Aviation Basel recently received FAA approval to provide line and base maintenance for the G650. The company received similar EASA approval last month. “We are continuously investing in new technologies and training our employees,” said Erik Vandegrift, director of Gulfstream maintenance operations at Jet Aviation Basel. “We are pleased to broaden our maintenance capabilities for Gulfstream owners and operators in the region.”
Luanda, Angola-based Best Fly Group has formed a partnership with Spanish company Corjet Maintenance (owned by Gestair) to create start-up company Best Fly Maintenance. Best Fly Maintenance will benefit from Corjet Maintenance’s EASA Part 145 knowledge and experience, enabling the newly formed business to offer maintenance solutions in Angola and the surrounding region.
