Pilatus Business Aircraft (Booth 4699) is gearing up for the 2017 arrival of its new PC-24 twinjet and continuing to make improvements to its strong-selling PC-12 turboprop single. Plans include completing the interiors for PC-24s destined for North and South America at Pilatus’s Broomfield, Col. campus, a move that will necessitate a significant expansion there.

FlightAware introduced a flight plan advisory service aimed at customers who are flying to countries where flight plans are not received automatically. Outside these areas, FlightAware’s new offering allows customers to input plans into an advisory service web page. When the aircraft sends ADS-B or datalink position information, the uploaded flight plan activates to allow worldwide flight tracking. For aircraft operating without a filed plan, FlightAware’s system can synthesize a flight plan based on positional data, allowing the tracking of these unscheduled operations.

Dassault Falcon Jet launched a new aircraft on ground (AOG) response program this week at NBAA 2014 yesterday. The customer-support program will use two company-owned Falcon 900s as rapid-response aircraft–one based at Teterboro (N.J.) Airport and the other at Paris Le Bourget.

Membership fleet access program Wheels Up now has 750 members and is on track to have 1,000 to 1,200 members and 37 aircraft by year-end, CEO Kenny Dichter announced this week at NBAA 2014. The fleet, operated by Gama Aviation, currently consists of King Air 350i turboprops and pre-owned Citation Excels/XLSs–with 27 and 10 of these aircraft, respectively, in the fleet by January–as well as Bombardier Global 5000s owned by Switzerland-based VistaJet and operated by Jet Aviation Flight Services.

At the second-day NBAA 2014 general session this morning in Orlando, Fla., the politically opposed and married media stars James Carville and Mary Matalin agreed the Republicans would likely take control of the Senate in the upcoming November 4 midterm elections. Carville pointed out that since World War II, the party with an incumbent president and a majority in the Senate had lost that majority in every mid-term election except one.

Textron Aviation is now actively marketing its Citation X Elite program, which refurbishes Xs­­–formerly in service with NetJets­–with updated avionics, new interior, paint and other refinements. The first ex-NetJets Citation X was inducted into the Elite program last year and the second is on display this week at NBAA 2014. The Elite upgrade isn’t limited to NetJets airplanes, noted Brad Thress, Textron Aviation senior vice president of customer service.
