Doha’s Qatar Airways is planning daily nonstop flights to Hong Kong beginning in March, using Airbus A330-200s that later will be replaced with A330-300s. It also wants to add Melbourne, Australia, to its route network in 2006 or 2007.
Kabul-based Ariana Afghan Airlines has agreed to lease two Boeing 757-200s from Boeing Capital and to buy four 737-700s. Following a formal signing of contracts here in Dubai, the 757s will be delivered this month, while the 737s are slated for delivery from 2009.
Canada has selected the Herc Solutions team to provide ongoing support services for its aging 31-strong Lockheed CC-130 Hercules fleet. Herc Solutions is a team of four major global C-130 support players, with Cascade Aerospace of Abbotsford, Canada, as prime contractor.
Piper PA-42 Cheyenne, Prescott, Ariz., Oct. 18, 2006–Cheyenne N121CS was involved in a photo shoot with a Soviet MiG-21 when the Cheyenne’s tail section separated in flight and the airplane crashed. All five aboard the Cheyenne were killed.
Canada’s CAE expects to place another three flight simulators next year at the Emirates-CAE Flight Training Center near Dubai International Airport to support the explosive growth in demand for flight training among the region’s airlines and business aircraft operators.
