DAC Receives PMA Approval For iPad EFB Interface

DAC International’s GDC64 taps into aircraft sensors to deliver data to creative new iPad apps.

DAC International has received FAA parts manufacturer approval (PMA) for its GDC64 tablet aircraft interface unit (TAIU). The unit serves two functions: to provide the correct power supply to recharge Apple iPad tablet computers; and to safely connect iPads to aircraft sensors to supply useful data to iPad applications. The GDC64 is hard-wired to the aircraft and doesn’t rely on wireless connectivity.

New Dassault Boss Eric Trappier Gets To Grips With Business Aviation

Last December, Dassault Aviation named Eric Trappier as its new chairman and CEO. The 52-year old Frenchman, who was previously the group’s international executive vice president, succeeded Charles Edelstenne when he retired on January 8 after more than half a century of service to the Dassault group.

Bombardier Unveils Challenger 350 at EBACE

Bombardier Aerospace took the wraps off the Challenger 350–an upgraded Challenger 300 with a new wing, more powerful engines, larger windows and redesigned interior–today at EBACE. NetJets was also announced as the launch customer for the new $25.8 million twinjet, which is $1 million more than its fraternal twin that Bombardier will continue to offer. First deliveries of the new Challenger are scheduled to begin in May 2014.

Today at EBACE, Nextant Aerospace launched the $4.95 million 400XTi (the “i” stands for innovation) as the latest evolution of its remanufactured Beechjet. Compared to the 400XT, the new version introduces a number of improvements, including an all-new cabin that offers more space and reduced noise.

Legacy 500 Makes World Debut at EBACE

The new Embraer Legacy 500 made its first public appearance outside Brazil as it flew to Geneva, where it is on display at the EBACE static park. Today at the show, Embraer Executive Jets president Ernie Edwards reported that the airplane successfully underwent cold-soak tests at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, following its first leg from São Jose dos Campos, Brazil. The next leg was a short hop to Embraer’s U.S. manufacturing facilities in Melbourne, Fla., where guests viewed the airplane and order-holders defined their preferred interior configurations.

Tough business conditions in Europe have gone on much longer than anyone here at this year’s EBACE would have liked, show organizers said today at a media briefing, but the continent’s business aviation community is putting those concerns to one side this week as it seeks to convince policy makers of the value the sector delivers. The value of the show itself is in no doubt, with the amount of exhibit space occupied this year at Geneva’a Palexpo center matching last year’s record numbers and the static display having to be increased in size to accommodate no fewer than 52 aircraft.

Gulfstream Aero Expands European Sales Presence

Gulfstream Aerospace announced today at EBACE that it is bolstering its sales and marketing presence in Europe as the Gulfstream fleet continues to expand there. As part of this effort, Gulfstream is opening a new sales and design center in London’s exclusive Mayfair district next month. In addition, Gulfstream has appointment four new company-authorized independent sales representatives in Europe and Africa: Tim Leacock Aircraft Sales in the UK; ATP Aviation in Ankara, Turkey; Loyd’s Aviation Group in Slovakia, Czech Republic; and Evergreen Apple Nigeria in Lagos.

Piaggio Extends Heavy Maintenance Schedule for Avanti I/II

Piaggio Aero announced a reduced maintenance program for Avanti I/IIs today at EBACE, extending the heavy inspection intervals for the twin turboprop. Under the new inspection schedule, C and D checks–previously due at 1,500 and 3,000 hours, respectively–have been stretched to 1,800 and 3,600 hours.

Dassault Waiting for Business Jet Recovery

Dassault is still waiting for a recovery of the U.S. business aircraft market–a market that has “no reason not to be back,” company officials said today at EBACE. They are perplexed by worldwide sales trends. “In 2013, we had a good early start in January and February but then things were disappointing,” said Dassault Falcon Jet president and CEO John Rosanvallon. In the U.S., CEOs say they are confident about the economy “but the dynamics in Washington are not helping,” he said. In Europe, flying hours show no sign of recovery yet.
