Bell Helicopter, a division of Textron, recently announced orders for 14 Model 505 JetRanger X light singles in South Africa. Bell’s local sales representative, National Airways, was responsible for the sales, mostly to “private pilots and enthusiasts,” according to the OEM. Nine of the sales were announced at the 8th Africa Aerospace and Defense (AAD) show last month in Tshwane, South Africa.

Teterboro, N.J.-based charter, FBO and maintenance provider Meridian (Booth 1878) has added a newly refurbished Bombardier Challenger 604 to its managed fleet, which currently includes 25 business jets ranging from a Gulfstream G550 to a Cessna Citation Mustang. The 12-passenger large cabin aircraft, based in Bedford, Mass., is available for charter on the company’s certificate.

South Africa’s O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg has taken a step up in the world by gaining a world-class FBO. Established by the aviation-loving Oppenheimer family and with a new terminal building and existing vast hangar (that could house three Airbus A380s), the FBO is set to put Jo’burg’s airport on the business aviation map.

Florida’s Kissimmee Gateway Airport (Booth 2976), about 15 miles south of Orlando, recently completed two major projects, a new five-acre Business Airpark as well as new taxiway and road access in the new AeroVista development. The projects make about 20 acres open to both aviation and non-aviation development.

Airbus A321neo

Airbus is discussing with airlines the possibility of building an extended-range version of the A321neo narrowbody airliner that would offer a replacement for the Boeing 757, which is no longer in production. An Airbus spokesman confirmed the outreach effort, which is at an early stage.

The services division of Comlux is offering Bombardier Global 8C inspections and the first is in progress. A Bombardier-authorized service facility since 2009, Comlux performed the first fuselage crown skin replacement on a Bombardier Global XRS in 2012, following a lightning strike.

The MRO also announced the addition of the Learjet 70/75 to its OpsSpec. “As an authorized service center for Learjet, we are pleased to have this join our list of approved aircraft,” said Jim Soleo, CEO of Comlux America.

Honeywell TPE331 engines can now be covered with a lifetime workmanship warranty on contracted maintenance services performed at a StandardAero facility. The program offers a warranty on maintenance performed by StandardAero, protecting against defects in workmanship as long as the engines are serviced by StandardAero. The program is offered at no additional cost and is transferrable to future owners/operators.

Textron Aviation is expanding its ProAdvantage customer support with the introduction of ProManagement, a program designed to help first-time owners navigate aircraft operations. ProAdvantage, which provides life-cycle maintenance and parts support for airframes and avionics, engines and, when applicable, auxiliary power units, is designed to reduce costs and maximize the value of the aircraft.

Boeing and China’s Comac on Wednesday opened a demonstration facility for turning waste cooking oil, commonly referred to as gutter oil in China, into sustainable aviation biofuel. Experts in the field estimate that China generates enough gutter oil to produce 500 million gallons of biofuel annually.
