JetSupport’s avionics shop has become part of the Honeywell service network by adding Honeywell and BendixKing service authorizations. The addition of the service center authorization allows JetSupport to provide a broader range of repairs, modifications and upgrades for Honeywell and BendixKing components and installations found in commercial, business and general aviation. JetSupport, located at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in The Netherlands, is an EASA- and FAA-authorized repair station with 4,500 components on its capability list.

Metallized Carbon (Metcar), a manufacturer of oil-free, self-lubricating, carbon-graphite materials for severe-service lubrication applications, has announced its carbon-graphite bushings are available for use in gear pumps that pump aviation fuel for aircraft engines. The carbon-graphite bushings, which are used to support both the drive gear shaft and the idler gear shaft, are preferred for that application because they can use aviation fuel as the bushing lubricant.

The FAA has issued a superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) for the Bombardier Challenger CL-600-1A11 (CL-600), CL-600-2A12 (CL-601), and CL-600-2B16 (CL-601-3A, CL-601-3R and CL-604). It requires operators to assign serial numbers or part numbers to certain landing-gear parts; establish the number of landings on the parts, if necessary; and revise the Airworthiness Limitations Section of the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA).

Pilatus Aircraft has signed a 10-year contract with Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) for the Indian company to supply PC-12 NG aerostructures. Tata will replace existing supplier PZL-Swidnik of Poland. This is India’s first major private partnership, and results from the 30-percent offset obligation (worth about $165 million) that Pilatus incurred in its sale of 75 PC-7 Mk II trainers to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

First Qatar Airways A350-900

Launch customer Qatar Airways released photos of the first Airbus A350-900 it expects to receive this year, freshly painted at the manufacturer’s assembly plant in Toulouse, France. The airline has ordered 80 of the new widebodies: 43 A350-900s and 37 -1000s.

The deployment of four UK Royal Air Force Tornadoes to perform overwatch of Iraq, and an unconfirmed report last week that more might be deployed for surveillance of northern Nigeria, serves to illustrate the ongoing value of the aging but effective “Tonka.” Although the RAF fleet is scheduled to be retired in 2019 in favor of the F-35, upgrades continue, with another one announced recently. Meanwhile, the German air force intends to keep its Tornado fleet until at least 2025, with its own upgrades.

The engineering team for GE Aviation’s new GE9X turbofan has completed development of the new carbon fiber composite material that will allow the powerplant for Boeing’s new 777X airliner to use fewer, thinner fan blades. Combined with the use of new composite case technology developed for the GEnx program, the engine will be around 1,000 pounds lighter than its predecessor.
