West Star Aviation has nearly completed a 47,000-sq-ft maintenance facility at its East Alton (ALN), Ill. location. In addition to the new maintenance facility, the multimillion-dollar expansion includes a 14,000-sq-ft wood shop and 6,000-sq-ft accessory repair shop, bringing the East Alton facilities from 250,000 to 317,300 sq ft and 300 employees.

The new facilities are scheduled to be completed next month, at which time West Star will host an open house.

Transport Canada has granted Innotech Aviation a rating in the category of advanced composites. The rating allows the facility to perform advanced repair, modification and replacement of primary composite aircraft structural components. This includes all fairings and flight control surfaces on the Bombardier Global and Challenger series.

Based at Colorado Springs Airport, Trine Aerospace & Defense offers engineering, manufacturing and aircraft modification on general aviation, commercial and special-mission aircraft. It also specializes in avionics and installation repair. The facility provides engineered solutions for Part 23 and 25 aircraft manufacturers, owner-operators, air carriers and defense contractors that perform special-mission aircraft integration and modernization.

Barry Beegle has joined the R-R M250 team at Air Services International as lead engine mechanic. Beegle brings 40 years of aviation experience, starting with eight years of service in the Air Force. He has specialized in the Rolls-Royce M250 for more than 20 years and has worked for Garrett Turbine, Rockwell International, Aviall and MD Helicopters. His field service areas included Taiwan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, the Philippines, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Cabin Innovations has named Gary Stephens engineering manager. Reporting directly to Cabin Innovations president Harvey Ticlo, he will be responsible for leading the engineering team and advancing the design and development capabilities for private-aircraft galleys and interiors. Previously Stephens worked for Associated Air Center as principle project engineer, senior project engineer and lead engineer on multiple single-aisle and widebody completion projects. He has 15 years’ experience in the interiors business.

A proposed Learjet 45 FAA airworthiness directive is prompted by reports of non-conforming windshield supports (coupe rails). It would require a general visual inspection to detect gouging and scratches and to determine if a radius has been removed; an ultrasound inspection to measure the dimensions of the lower coupe rails; an eddy current inspection to detect cracks of the lower coupe rails; replacement of the lower coupe rails if necessary; and revision of the maintenance or inspection program, as applicable.

Australia will order 58 more Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II fighters for $12.4 billion, the government said on April 23. Including jets the country has already ordered, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will be able to field three squadrons of the fifth-generation fighter.

Pratt & Whitney Canada started running a full PW800 engine demonstrator late last year, company vice president of business aviation and military programs Michael Perodeau told AIN yesterday. He confirmed that the demonstration effort has progressed according to plan but gave little detail.
