On December 21, Turkish-based Tusas Aerospace Industries shipped its first AW139 fuselage to AgustaWestland. Under a 2004 agreement, 250 fuselages for the medium twin will be manufactured in Ankara between last year and 2017. The company will deliver 24 this year.

A Eurocopter AS 365N Dauphin, operated by CHC Scotia, crashed on December 27 near an oil rig in the East Irish Sea. None of the two crew or five passengers survived; one body is missing. The 20-year-old airframe had not been recovered at press time. The accident took place at about 6:35 p.m.

The European Aviation Safety Agency has certified the Arrius 1A1, a new version of Turbomeca’s Arrius turboshaft. The 463-shp engine will power the Eurocopter AS 355NP twin turbine.
