Flexjet Celebrates Third Consecutive NATA Five Star Award

The U.S. National Air Transportation Association (NATA) has honored Flexjet’s maintenance organization with a third consecutive Five Star Award, the association’s highest recognition offered for aviation maintenance technician training. To secure this standing, a company must have at least 90 percent of its AMTs participate in a qualified training program and complete a minimum of 12 hours of education per year. Flexjet achieved 100-percent participation from its maintenance technicians.

Leasing Company Signs for up to 20 ATR 72-600s

Leasing firm HGI yesterday placed a firm order for 10 ATR 72-600s for delivery to Brazilian carrier Passaredo Linhas Aéreas. The value of the deal, including options on another 10 airplanes, amounts to $482 million. HGI Capital Group also becomes a shareholder of Passaredo, following the approval of ANAC, Brazil’s National Agency for Civil Aviation.

Duncan Aviation Names Shawn Schmitz Turbine Engine Tech Rep

Duncan Aviation has appointed Shawn Schmitz to the position of turbine engine tech rep for Honeywell and Rolls-Royce engines. Schmitz joined Duncan Aviation in 2001 after serving six years in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in Yuma, Ariz., with two deployments to Japan. He most recently served as the team leader for the Duncan Aviation engine line shop.

Boeing has shifted its 737 Max schedules to reflect first delivery of the Max 8 to Southwest Airlines in the third quarter of 2017, as early as six months ahead of the original plan, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president and general manager Scott Fancher revealed here in Paris yesterday. As a result, schedules for the Max 9 and Max 7 would also shift by at least a quarter. The company expects the program to reach firm design configuration in July. “The risks are understood, they’re being managed effectively and we have no serious technical issues to deal with,” said Fancher.

Neil Gallagher has joined Winner Aviation as its vice president of maintenance. In this newly created position, he will be responsible for the growth of the maintenance division by expanding Winner Aviation’s product line of aircraft maintenance services for current and prospective customers as well as developing new products and services. Gallagher began his career in 1984 as an F-16 mechanic and subsequently worked for Eastern, Midway and Airborne Express Airlines.

A new film about the Patrouille de France has been released at the show and claims to portray the aerobatic team “as they have never been seen before.” The film’s producer and directors, Eric Magnan and Francoise-Olivier Robin, have captured exceptional moments in the Patrouille’s display thanks to the use of a specially-configured Daher-Socata TBM 850 turboprop, which flies fast enough to keep up with the Patrouille’s Alphajets.

No British Parts For Argentina’s Pampa III Trainer

After many years of performing MRO and modernization, Argentina’s historic military aircraft factory at Córdoba is back in business building new aircraft. Now known as Fábrica Argentina de Aviones “Brigadier San Martin” or Fadea for short, the factory has put the IA-63 jet trainer back in production in a new-generation version, which is known as Pampa III. The factory has amassed an impressive roster of international partners for the project, but there is no place for any UK supplier.

Gufstream sets G650 and G280 records

Gulfstream (Chalet A144) is claiming three new city-pair records for the G650 demonstrator flown to the Paris Air Show, and three records for the super-midsize G280 that is also on Gulfstream’s static display (Static N). These record flights await official confirmation by the National Aeronautic Association (NAA). The company also announced that it has opened a new sales and design center in London.

Among a crush of onlookers at the Paris Air Show on Monday, Turbomeca and Bell unveiled the Arrius 2R turboshaft, which is destined to power the new Bell “short, light single” (SLS) helicopter. Olivier Andries (left), Turbomeca chairman and CEO, said, “We are incredibly excited to be working with Bell Helicopter. Our teams have been working together for some time now on this project.”

The Arrius, which provides power in the 450- to 550-shp class, will be controlled by dual Fadecs and will meet ICAO Stage 4 noise targets.
