The London-based Baltic Air Carrier Association (BACA), which claims to be “the largest and longest standing [since 1949] organization focused on the air charter brokerage industry in the world,” has endorsed Argus’ Certified Charter Broker Program. “The air charter brokerage business is largely unregulated,” so users have to do their own due diligence, BACA noted.

The first production Cessna Citation CJ3+ made its maiden flight yesterday from the company’s manufacturing facility at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. Production flight-test pilot Mark Tuttle said all systems performed as expected during the 73-minute flight. The new twinjet, the latest in the CitationJet family, which was announced on March 20, is expected to receive FAA certification later this year. Features include a Garmin G3000 flight deck and upgraded interior and systems. The nine-seat CJ3+ is expected to receive single-pilot certification and has a range of 2,070 nm.

Daher-Socata’s U.S. Southwest distributor, Avex, took delivery of its 100th TBM aircraft, the French manufacturer announced today. The milestone aircraft is the third TBM 900 provided to Avex this year and will be delivered to its owner, John Edwards. Avex became a Daher-Socata dealer 15 years ago for California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Meanwhile, the TBM 900 is making its AirVenture debut this week at EAA AirVenture 2014 in Oshkosh, Wis. Daher-Socata is displaying two TBM 900s at the airshow, one of which is taking part in the daily flying display.

At this year’s EAA AirVenture, Shell Aviation is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the AeroShell Aerobatic team, with the opportunity to meet the team members every day at the company’s booth (Hangar C, Booth No. 3072) between 11 a.m. and noon for autographs to collect the free annual AeroShell Oshkosh poster and relax in the shaded AeroShell park. The company is running a contest for one lucky winner to fly with the Shell-sponsored team, with that winner to be announced on the main stage at Boeing Plaza on Thursday night, before the concert by Boogie and the Yo-Yoz.

Cessna Aircraft’s second production Citation Latitude (S/N 002) made its first flight on Friday. During the 2.7-hour flight, the crew evaluated the autopilot, autothrottle, landing gear, pressurization, engine operating characteristics, environmental systems and flight control systems. This flight also marked the first time all three Citation Latitude prototypes were in the air simultaneously. S/N 002 is the third Citation Latitude to join the certification flight-test program and is the first that will be equipped with a full cabin.

WestAir Charter is rolling out a new “price pledge” guarantee on Friday for all of its charter quotes. The charter firm–a division of Western Aircraft that operates PC-12s in the western U.S., Canada and Mexico–said its “price pledge” states “it will never bill clients for more than they were originally quoted,” with exceptions only for itinerary changes and impromptu overnights. “This means there is no guesswork for our clients,” said director of flight operations Jeff Matlock.

Fractional aircraft ownership firm Executive AirShare hired industry veteran Pete Pedicino as regional vice president of sales for Dallas and South Texas. In his new role, Pedicino “will drive Executive AirShare’s growth in key Texas markets.” The company now serves customers in Houston, San Antonio and Austin, and has served customers in Dallas and Fort Worth since 2006. Pedicino has spent the past 14 years in the fractional aircraft ownership industry, most recently as senior vice president of sales with NetJets.

Newscaster and pilot Amelia Rose Earhart (no relation to Amelia Mary Earhart) landed at EAA AirVenture 2014 in Oshkosh, Wis., this week to thank her partners and sponsors for her around-the-world flight. Flying a Pilatus PC-12 NG outfitted with a 200-gallon auxiliary fuel tank, she recreated and completed the fatal 1937 journey of her famous namesake.

At 9 a.m. tomorrow at EAA AirVenture, 12 skilled flyers will face off in the Flying Challenge Cup, pitting their Redbird simulator flying skills against each other in three final events–a short-field takeoff, steep turn and precision landing to a full stop on a virtual Runway 18 at Oshkosh Wittman Regional Airport.

Textron Aviation’s Cessna subsidiary announced yesterday that it is adding to its investments in diesel engine technology, with the new diesel-powered Turbo Skyhawk JT-A joining the single-engine product line. The Skyhawk JT-A is on display at the Textron pavilion this week at EAA AirVenture 2014.
