Neil Bracken, formerly director of the General Mills flight department, has joined Fargo Jet Center as vice president of flight operations and interim general manager for the company’s recently acquired Premier Jet Center in Eden Prairie, Minn. Meanwhile, Mike Clancy was promoted from director of maintenance to vice president of technical services for both locations, as well as the company’s associated Weather Modifications business. Finally, Bruce Boe was promoted to vice president of meteorology at Weather Modifications.

California-based Vessix, an aviation software developer, has partnered with Total Control Systems, a provider of electronic flow meters, on a new FBO fuel inventory reporting system, which is making its debut here at NBAA.

According to its designers, the new system will modernize and streamline the fuel invoice and inventory-monitoring processes. “The sheer amount of wasted time and energy [currently] involved is mind-blowingly expensive, not to mention an incredibly archaic process that is prone to costly mistakes,” said Vessix co-founder and COO Tom Perkins.

MD Helicopters and partner Universal Avionics Systems of Tucson, Ariz., are progressing well in their program to offer a next-generation cockpit for the MD Explorer helicopter. Capable of supporting single-pilot IFR operations, the new cockpit will be available on both new-build helicopters and as a retrofit option. The Explorer has found particular success in the law enforcement and emergency medical services (EMS) world.

Gulfstream Aerospace has assembled a diverse supplier team for its new G500 and G600 large cabin jets, which the OEM announced on October 14.

Power for the new models will come from Pratt & Whitney Canada’s new PW800 engines. The 16,000-pound-thrust PW814GA and PW815GA powerplants have the same core technology used in the company’s family of geared turbofan commercial engines. The new engine was on display at P&WC’s NBAA exhibit along with the company’s PW600, PW300 and PT6A engines.

A new airline industry forecast from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) shows that international freight volumes will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 4.1 percent over the next five years, suggesting a reasonably abrupt reversal of bad fortunes for a segment whose growth rate has averaged 0.63 percent a year since 2011. Emerging economies, particularly in the Middle East and Africa, will be the fastest growing markets, according to the report.

Sandel Avionics (Booth 4866) announced that it had been issued a service installation bulletin (equivalent to an FAA STC) from the Russian aviation authorities and the Mil Design Bureau for installing its ST3400H HeliTaws system in the Mil Mi-8AMT and Mi-8MTV-1 helicopters. The ST3400H thus becomes the first non-Russian helicopter terrain awareness and warning system (H-Taws) to be certified in the country.

FBO chain Hawthorne Global Aviation (Booth 3031) has purchased Heartland Aviation, the lone service provider at Chippewa Valley Regional Airport in Eau Claire, Wis. Backed by Moelis Capital Partners, this latest acquisition marks the company’s fifth FBO overall and its third addition in the past six months.

Along with the recently added facilities at Chicago Executive Airport and Cobb County Airport in Atlanta, Hawthorne also operates FBOs at Long Island Mac Arthur Airport in New York and at Louisiana’s New Orleans Lakefront Airport.

Completion and refurbishment specialist Flying Colours of Peterborough, Ontario, announced here at NBAA 2014 a joint-venture agreement with China-based Sparkle Roll Technik (SRT), which focuses on business jet cabin modifications and maintenance.

The first project, scheduled to begin by the end of October, will see eight China B-registered Bombardier CRJ-200s (procured by SRT) converted from commuter to executive interiors mirroring the Challenger 850.
