Etihad Airways is betting on the Airbus A380 cabin to launch “reimagined” premium classes, according to airline CEO James Hogan. Speaking recently at the unveiling of the carrier’s new livery, Hogan also singled out India and Abu Dhabi as major growth destinations.

Gulfstream G500

During a ceremony this morning at its Savannah, Ga. headquarters, Gulfstream Aerospace took the wraps off the new G500 and G600, which are expected to enter service in 2018 and 2019, respectively. At this morning's ceremony the G500 rolled out under its own power. Both models have a wider cabin cross-section than the G450 and G550, but not quite as wide as that of the G650. The new jets–nestled between the G450, G550 and G650–will also have more composite content than existing Gulfstreams.

Flexjet and Qatar Executive quickly lined up to be the launch customers for the new Gulfstream G500, which was revealed this morning alongside its larger G600 sibling during a ceremony at the aircraft manufacturer’s Savannah, Ga. headquarters. Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding today for up to 20 Gulfstreams, while Flexjet placed an order for 50 aircraft, including options.

We expect little change to the prevailing business jet narrative, which is that demand has stabilized but with only muted signs of recovery,” J.P. Morgan said in its latest monthly business jet report, released yesterday. “Business jet demand has not recovered with corporate profits, as it has previously. We estimate that 2013 U.S. corporate profits were up about 50 percent from the 2008 trough, whereas bizjet deliveries have yet to turn up decisively,”

Business aviation in Jordan continues to grow at a modest rate, according to new research commissioned by the Middle East and North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA) ahead of the group’s conference today in the Jordanian capital. The research, conducted by Germany-based WingX Advance, showed that while there has been almost no growth in the number of active and registered business jets in Jordan since 2000, the number of operators in the country has increased at an annual rate of 2.7 percent.

Embraer delivered the first Legacy 500 on Friday, less than two months after the fly-by-wire midsize jet obtained certification from Brazilian civil aviation authority ANAC. The launch customer, an unidentified Brazilian company, accepted the aircraft during a ceremony at Embraer headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil.

NBAA’s two-day Tax, Regulatory and Risk-management Conference starts on Sunday in Orlando, Fla., ahead of the association’s annual convention there. On the conference agenda are sessions on ownership and operating structures, tax planning, financing, leasing, personal use of business aircraft, use policies and aircraft transactions. According to NBAA, the conference is geared for flight department personnel, aviation attorneys and financial advisors.

Garmin and Jeppesen today introduced the RNP AR NavData Service, a new tool for pilots who fly Required Navigation Performance–Authorization Required (RNP AR) procedures. Their RNP AR NavData Service automates the more than 350 data accuracy checks per procedure required by FAA Advisory Circular 90-101A.
