Helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland is here showing a mockup of an AW101 cabin in a luxury layout, probably the ultimate for a VVIP helicopter, as it is the heaviest civil helicopter available in the Western world. “This is just one of the possible layouts in such a roomy cabin,” an AgustaWestland spokesman told EBACE Convention News.
Commercial business unit senior v-p Renzo Lunardi added that the company rushed to manufacture the mockup. Therefore, the quality is below AgustaWestland’s usual standards, he said.
No firm order for a VVIP AW101 has been placed yet.According to Lunardi, the corporate/ VIP market accounts for 30 percent of AgustaWestland’s commercial sales in number of aircraft sold. Sales are increasing by an average of 25 to 30 percent each year, he added.
This segment is second only to the offshore one, which accounts for 50 percent of the sales.
