Competition for panel space and pilot eyeballs continues to intensify, with avionics manufacturers announcing more new products at EAA AirVenture this week in Oshkosh, Wis. Avidyne introduced the eight-inch PFD4000, a replacement for the “six-pack” instrument cluster with a high-resolution screen and remote sensors, keeping unit thickness to 3.5 inches.
Shipments of the PFD4000 are slated to begin next year. Avidyne also announced that it will offer a synthetic vision system (SVS) as an OEM option on its Entegra systems.
At Oshkosh, Avidyne is displaying what could finally be the company’s first fully integrated avionics suite, with dual 15-inch displays, Avidyne’s own digital navcoms and an FMS keyboard. L-3 Avionics is adding SVS to its SmartDeck integrated cockpit, and the latest version includes WAAS capability.
L-3 also introduced the Trilogy LCD backup instrument designed for glass cockpits and will announce pricing as Trilogy nears certification. Garmin had no new handheld offerings, but announced that the G600 “six-pack” replacement system received TSO approval and is STC’d for installation on 785 aircraft.
Aspen Avionics’ EFD1000 PFD, introduced at last year’s show, is now STC approved for installation in more than 600 airplanes.
