The empty Garrett Jet Center at Van Nuys Airport should finally see a new tenant. Local developer Castle & Cooke Aviation, which already operates a hangar and office facility at Van Nuys, has entered negotiations with Los Angeles World Airports to lease the Jet Center property and develop an FBO.
Castle & Cooke does not have retail fueling rights at its existing facilities although it does provide fuel to tenants. Local charter company Elite Aviation had won the bidding to take over the Jet Center property but withdrew its proposal, according to Castle & Cooke.
Plans call for Castle & Cooke to demolish the existing buildings and build a new FBO with more than 100,000 sq ft of hangar space and 50,000 sq ft of FBO, office and shop space. Castle & Cooke owns two other FBOs, in Honolulu and Everett, Wash.
