Cessna crowing over its orders for 26 aircraft

Cessna Aircraft has received new orders for 26 single-engine aircraft from companies in the Asia Pacific region.

Susi Air of Indonesia placed an order for six Model 208B Grand Caravan turboprops, one of which sits on the static display line here this week.

Susi currently operates eight Grand Caravans and plans to take delivery of two more in the first quarter of this year. Plans call for the new 208Bs to ship in 2009 and 2010.

Susi Air transported more than 30,000 scheduled passengers on four routes with two aircraft in 2007 from its Medan base. The company plans for 100,000 passengers in 2008. The remainder of Susi Air’s fleet carries cargo in remote provinces of Indonesia, and one VIP-equipped aircraft is based in Jakarta for charter.

Separately, Chimes Aviation of India ordered 20 Skyhawk 172 single-engine piston aircraft. The order includes eleven 172R aircraft for immediate delivery and nine turbo-diesel 172 models for delivery later this year.

Chimes plans to use its aircraft for flight training at the Chimes Aviation Academy. The flight school operates from Sagar Airport in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India, and plans to add a second location by October. The academy expects to train about 120 students per year at each location and considers this order the first phase of the academy’s ventures. It expects additional orders this year to cover its growth requirements for 2009.
