Cessna Reaches Milestones for Mustang, CJ4

Cessna Aircraft yesterday delivered the 100th Citation Mustang at the Independence, Kan. plant where it manufactures the very light jet.

This commemorative Mustang went to long-time Cessna customer Supap Puranitee, a businessman in Thailand who put a deposit down on the jet the day it was launched at the 2002 NBAA Convention. The first customer Citation Mustang entered service in April last year, and Cessna delivered 45 Mustangs by the end of that year.

The company expects to deliver 100 of the VLJs this year and about 150 next year. Cessna said the Mustang order book has surpassed 500 aircraft, with about three of every five of the VLJs going to customers based outside the U.S. Meanwhile, on Tuesday the first production Citation CJ4 made its maiden flight from McConnell AFB in east Wichita, landing some 41 minutes later at Cessna’s facility on Mid-Continent Airport.

Since the CJ4 prototype first flew in May it has logged 59 flights and accumulated more than 90 hours. FAA certification of the CJ4 is planned for the second half of next year, followed by customer deliveries beginning in the first half of 2010.
