Charter Data Shows Mixed Picture

The latest data from Charter X and Avinode gives conflicting pictures of the fortunes of the executive charter market over the past month. Avinode’s demand index for November 1 dipped below 60, having stood at 69.1 just 30 days earlier.

Over the same period, Avinode’s average price index showed a slight fall of less than 1 percent to 92.86. By contrast, the Charter X log of actual flight hours during October showed light and heavy jet activity both up by 14 percent (at 15,955 and 8,193 hours respectively), while midsize aircraft increased their flying by 19.5 percent at 14,203 hours.

Although CharterX shows increases across the board, Avinode’s flight hour prices for some specific aircraft types showed softening in demand. For example, the average rate for a Cessna Citation Excel in the U.S. on November 1 was 5.6 percent down on October 1 at $3,156 and in the non-North American market it was practically static at $4,275.

The average November 1 prices for a Hawker 800 and a Challenger 604 in the U.S. were also just over 5 percent down on a month earlier, while outside North America average rates for these types dropped by just over 2 and 3 percent, respectively.
