Comp Air’s CA-9 Turboprop To Fly Soon

Merritt Island, Fla.-based Comp Air is preparing its CA-9 prototype for first flight, three months after unveiling the all-composite turboprop single at the Sun 'n' Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, Fla. It plans to fly the new aircraft to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., later this month.

The $1.6 million CA-9–a six-place, high-wing airplane with fixed gear–is expected to cruise at 250 knots and have a range of 2,200 nm. Additionally, Comp Air is working on the CA-11 and CA-12, which are also all-composite turboprop singles powered by a Honeywell TPE331.

The $2.5 million CA-11, a low-wing airplane that shares the CA-9’s fuselage, will have a max cruise speed of 360 knots. A CA-11 prototype is scheduled to fly by year-end, and both the CA-9 and -11 are slated for FAA certification in 2011.

The TPE331-14GR-powered CA-12 prototype, which has been flying for more than a year, is now being outfitted with an interior that will be unveiled at AirVenture. Comp Air will start taking deposits for the nine-seat, $2.5 million, 310-knot CA-12 at the show.

The CA-12 is slated for FAA certification in the first half of 2010.
