Embraer Announces Plans for Florida Phenom Factory

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and Embraer president and CEO Frederico Curado this afternoon jointly announced that the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer is building a $51 million, 149,500-sq-ft Phenom 100/300 final assembly, painting and delivery and customer operations center at Melbourne Airport.

The groundwork for the new manufacturing facility on Florida’s Space Coast was laid in November when the governor visited with Curado during a five-day trade and economic development mission to Brazil. “Developing highly competitive facilities in the Southeastern part of the United States solidifies our commitment in meeting the expectations of our customers of the business jet market,” said Curado.

Embraer plans to open the new facility by 2011 and employ approximately 200 people for aircraft assembly, production planning, logistics and quality, aircraft interior design, corporate administration, certain engineering functions, aircraft painting, delivery and flight testing. Partners on the project include Enterprise Florida, Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast, the City of Melbourne and the Melbourne Airport Authority.
