Embraer E190 Gains ISA+39 deg Approval

Embraer has received ISA+39-degrees C certification for the E190 airliner from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the FAA, the company announced yesterday. With the certification, the 100-seat jet can fly without operational restriction in airports where temperatures reach as high as 129 degrees F at sea level.

“The ISA+39-degrees C certification is one more step in the aircraft’s improvement process, and it will assist many of our customers,” said Luciano Castro, Embraer v-p of programs for the airline market. “This optional item extends the Embraer 190’s operational scope to high-temperature regions, such as the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.”

For those airlines, the improvement opens the possibility for new routes and increased time schedule flexibility because it will allow the aircraft to operate during the day, when temperatures reach extreme highs.

International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) is a model that defines temperature, pressure, density and viscosity of the Earth’s atmosphere as a function of altitude. According to the model, the standard temperature at sea level, or ISA, is 59 degrees F, or 15 degrees C.
