EMS Satcom intros new antenna

Satellite communications specialist EMS Satcom (Stand No. 113) has introduced its new eNfusion AMT-700 high-gain antenna (HGA). The new tail-mounted antenna promises higher gain than competing antennas of similar size and weight.

The Canadian company designed the antenna with Inmarsat’s new SwiftBroadband high-speed Internet service in mind. EMS’s existing AMT-50 HGA antenna is already flying on more than 1,400 aircraft.

The AMT-700, which should be commercially available beginning next May, is mechanically steered and designed to be mounted on aircraft tails. The lightweight five-pound unit is well suited for installation on business aircraft. It will offer comparable or better performance than the heavier AMT-50 HGA.

The new antenna consists of line replaceable units and features lower power consumption, higher gain (greater than 13.5dB) and a small footprint. It is intended to meet or exceed the most stringent SwiftBroadband requirements.

The antenna control functions have been integrated into the antenna package, offering more flexible installation. The first variant of the new system will be DC-powered, with an AC model to follow.
