Factual Report: King Air Clips Tree while Taxiing

Hawker Beechcraft King Air 200, Henderson, Nev., March 22, 2009–The twin turboprop, operated by Southern Nevada Jet Charter, collided with a tree while taxiing after a dusk landing at Henderson Executive Airport. According to the ATP-certified pilot, who said he was familiar with the ramp area, as he approached the operator’s hangar he noticed a tug positioned in front and turned the aircraft to align with it rather than move to the usual deplaning area.

Shortly after, the aircraft struck a tree near the hangar, causing substantial damage to the right wing. The ATP-certified copilot reported that he noticed the tug located 10 feet laterally from the hangar door and, since he expected the pilot would park in the usual deplaning area, looked down to begin his post-flight checklist.

The pilot, copilot and two passengers were uninjured.
