Final Flight

Charles “Charlie” Morris, 90, a former NBAA board member and long-time head of Mobil’s corporate flight depart- ment, died on June 17 in Norwalk, Conn. A USAAC pilot during World War II, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters.

After the war, Morris flew for several airlines, including Pan American World Airways, and in 1951 he joined Mobil as a DC-3 pilot. In 1957, he was given managerial responsibility for the company’s entire flight department, which under his watch became recognized as the largest business aircraft operation in the world, with bases across the globe.

Morris served on the NBAA board of directors from 1967 to 1979 and retired from Mobil in 1984. He is survived by his wife, Juliette, daughter Margo, son Matthew (a corporate pilot himself), daughter-in-law Colleen, step-children Peter and Lolly, and two grandsons.
