Flight Display hits the Big Leagues

Flight Display Systems, launched in 1999 from the basement of now-president David Gray, began simply with its first product–a moving-map display.

Some 4,500 product sales later, the Alpharetta, Ga.-based cabin electronics specialist now has more than 100 products currently in stock, including its new Ellipse phased-array satellite direct television small enough for a single-engine turboprop aircraft, and most recently a Blu-ray video player and Jet JukeBox capable of holding a library of up to 100 DVD movies for viewing over HDMI.

At the NBAA Convention last month Flight Display moved into the big leagues with its most ambitious project to date, the Select cabin management system. According to Gray, Select is specifically designed to interface with the company’s high-definition displays and source equipment, as well as with source equipment of other manufacturers. And while, like most of its products, it was formally introduced as a retrofit package, “some OEMs are making inquiries with regard to making it optional equipment on new aircraft.”
