Gulfstream Aerospace is demonstrating its second-generation enhanced-vision system (EVS II) on its G150 experimental flight-test aircraft here at the NBAA Convention. The EVS II installed on this airplane, which is at Gulfstream’s static display during the show, is operational but not yet certified. Gulfstream anticipates receiving an STC in the first quarter of next year to install EVS II on the G150.
The FAA certified EVS II for installation on large-cabin Gulfstreams late last year. The Gulfstream EVS II projects onto a head-up display actual, real-time images of the aircraft’s surroundings using an infrared camera mounted in the nose of the aircraft. According to Gulfstream, it increases situational awareness at night by allowing pilots to see terrain, runways, taxiways and approaches that are undetectable by unaided sight.EVS II, which was developed by Gulfstream in cooperation with Kollsman, is 22 pounds lighter, has four times the computational power and features four times the memory of the original EVS that was certified by the FAA on Sept.
