Head-down EVS in works for Avanti, S-76

Elbit Systems of America’s (Booth No. 3113) Kollsman general aviation vision system (GAViS)–a head-down enhanced-vision system–is undergoing installation and certification on both the Piaggio Avanti II turboprop twin and Sikorsky S-76 helicopter. GAViS houses an infrared sensor in a single, aerodynamic line-replaceable unit, which allows for easy installation on an aircraft’s exterior.

Jet Works Air Center of Denton, Texas, is doing the installation and certification for Piaggio as its approved completions and installation center for the Avanti in the U.S. marketplace. GAViS is expected to be certified by year-end for both the Avanti and Avanti II.

Pro Star Aviation of Manchester, N.H., is completing the installation and certification on the S-76, but aircraft owner (and Sikorsky parent company) United Technologies also hopes to leverage the certification by offering it as an option through Keystone Helicopters, the completion center for the S-76. GAViS is scheduled to be certified for all variants of the S-76 by the end of this year.
