Jet Source buys Western

Carlsbad, Calif.-based Jet Source has purchased competing FBO Western Flight, adding another 30,000 sq ft of hangar space and the airport’s largest ramp to its holdings. Jet Source announced early last month that it had named Ken Curry its new president and COO, replacing Frank Milian.

Curry is a former Air Force B-52 pilot and holder of the Distinguished Flying Cross, with 157 missions flown in Southeast Asia. Before joining Jet Source, Curry ran his own consulting company helping financiers perform due diligence on acquisitions and consolidations.Curry said that during his first 90 days he planned to work closely with the Jet Source team “to come up with that vision and mission statement and to formulate our burning imperative for the future.

Curry’s job is not just running the combined Jet Source and Western Flight FBOs but also overseeing Jet Source’s dual Part 145 repair stations, one of which covers maintenance and the other avionics, as well as the company’s charter operation. Jet Source is also expanding with a facility at Henderson Executive Airport near Las Vegas, although it won’t be a traditional FBO with fuel service.

The Henderson operation should open next year. After that, Curry has his sights on a possible FBO on the East Coast.
