The first Bombardier Global Express 8C check has been performed in Europe by Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services (LBAS), a joint venture of Lufthansa Technik, Bombardier and ExecuJet.
The work included dismantling the aircraft’s cabin, overhauling the landing gear and inspecting and modifying structures and systems. The Berlin-based MRO, which specializes in Bombardier business aircraft, completed the project in eight weeks.
Equivalent to a D check for large commercial aircraft, the 8C check is the biggest regularly scheduled maintenance event for the Global Express and is required after 10 years of flight operations.
Juan Pou, the customer’s technical director, said, “We were aware that our tight schedule and the fact that nobody had performed this inspection in Europe before [posed] a high risk. But when selecting our maintenance provider we relied on our long-time relationship with LBAS and were not disappointed.”
LBAS, based on Berlin-Schoenefeld Airport in Germany, had previously done similar overhaul work on Bombardier Learjets and Challengers.
