NetJets Pilots Break from IBT, Choose In-house Union

NetJets pilots this week overwhelmingly voted to switch union representation from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to the NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots (NJASAP), an in-house group. The final results, released on Tuesday evening, show that of the 81.7 percent of eligible NetJets pilots who participated in the vote, 97.7 percent opted for the NJASAP while 2.3 percent chose the IBT.

NJASAP president Dennis Cotton told AIN yesterday, “As per the disaffiliation agreement, several letters must be drafted from the company and IBT to go to the [National Mediation Board], along with several other documents. We are in the drafting stages now, and should be [finished before] the changeover date of [July] 11.

Cotton and other interim board leaders will guide the NJASAP until formal elections are held on October 24. There will also be an “orderly transfer of executive board duties” at IBT 1108 to the Flight Options pilots, who in 2006 voted for representation under the Teamsters local.

The NetJets pilot union leaders have also pledged to provide assistance to the Flight Options pilot group, which is still in negotiations on its initial work contract.
