PPG window coating is a real cool idea

PPG Aerospace is developing transparencies for aircraft cockpit and cabin windows that help keep the interior cooler by reducing heat from the sun. The clear solar-reflective window coatings cut solar transmittance in half, said PPG Aerospace global director Anthony Stone. Aircraft like the Boeing 787 and Hawker 4000 that are built using composites don’t dissipate solar heat as well as aluminum airplanes, Stone noted. Applying solar-reflective coatings to windows provides an ideal solution,” he said. PPG Aerospace is showing the coated windows in Hall B2 at Stand D57.

Meanwhile, if you are tired of adjusting airliner windows to just the right level, PPG Aerospace has the answer with its Alteos interactive window systems. Alteos uses Gentex Corp. electrochromic technology that allows a passenger to alter from the seat the tint of the windows, from clear to fully darkened.

Solar-relexive coating is also incorporated to reduce cabin cooling requirements. Electrochromic windows offer not only improved comfort to passengers but also greater freedom to aircraft interior designers, and greater operating efficiency. PPG is supplying Alteos interactive windows for the Boeing 787 and Hawker Beechcraft King Air 350i.
