Hawker Beechcraft reported continued strong sales for its airplane offerings in the first quarter, though snags with the Hawker 4000 resulted in the Wichita aircraft manufacturer posting a $1.5 million loss for the period. “The loss was the consequence of an $18.4 million charge related to early production Hawker 4000 aircraft,” the company said.
“This resulted from an increase in the cost to conform the early aircraft to the final type design. The company reported net bookings of $1.1 billion during the three-month span, resulting in a record backlog of $6.8 billion.
Hawker Beechcraft delivered 20 jets (six Hawker 900XPs, two 800XP/850XPs, three 400XPs and nine Premier IAs) and 29 King Air turboprop twins in the first quarter, compared with 32 jets (ten 800XP/850XPs, seven 400XPs and 15 Premiers) and 28 turboprops in the same period last year. According to Hawker Beechcraft chairman and CEO Jim Schuster, “We’re closing out certification reports with the FAA on the [super-midsize] Hawker 4000 and plan to begin delivering the airplane in the near future.
The first aircraft are being prepped for customer delivery. Meanwhile, the company plans to make a new-product announcement at EBACE next week.
