Touching Bases: Safety 1st develps TEB training

A comprehensive pilot training and briefing system is available online (www.airportflightcrewbriefing.com/Teterboro) to help pilots prepare for flights into and out of Teterboro Airport. The briefing was produced by NATA’s Safety 1st program and Avstar Media and funded by an FAA grant.

Offered as a free online training tool, the briefing uses audio and graphics to highlight critical safety information at Teterboro Airport. Runway incursion hot spots are shown, including a photo of each hot spot and what it would look like during the day or at night.

Four main areas are covered: safety, security, noise abatement and ATC procedures. “Teterboro was chosen to pilot this Safety 1st program in cooperation with NATA because the airport is in close proximity to a dense community and because we are dedicated to keeping this community safe,” said NATA director of safety and security Russ Lawton, who led the implementation of the program.

The Safety 1st Teterboro briefing system doesn’t yet offer a way to track accomplishment of the training, but NATA is looking into adding this feature later as the system is expanded to other airports. Another company, Noverant, also offers an online Teterboro training system, available for a $35 per year access fee.

Noverant’s learning management system keeps a record of training conducted and notifies users when the material is updated or when recurrent training is due.
