TSA Delays Town Hall Meeting to Hear Input on LASP

The December 3 town hall meeting planned by the Transportation Security Administration to hear what general aviation operators think about the Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP) proposal has been tentatively rescheduled to January 6 next year. Plans are to hold the meetings in White Plains, N.Y.; Atlanta; Chicago; Van Nuys, Calif.; and Houston.

The tentative new date means that the TSA will hear from citizens affected by the proposed regulation 53 days before the comment period ends on February 27. The LASP will at a minimum require Part 91 operators of aircraft with an mtow of more than 12,500 pounds to create a TSA-approved security program, subject flight crew to FBI criminal background and fingerprint checks and run all passengers, including family members and employers, against the TSA’s watch lists.

Meanwhile, the TSA has not answered AIN’s questions about how the LASP or how other measures such as temporary flight restrictions and the Washington, D.C., ADIZ could prevent a terrorist attack. Comments now number more than 1,000.
